Technology is Your Organization's Superpower-Podcast with Jeff Gothelf

By Anthony Taylor - September 11, 2019

In this episode of our Strategy & Leadership Podcast, we were joined by Jeff Gothelf, author of Sense and Respond. Jeff was a software designer for over 10 years, before eventually shifting his focus to providing value to customers by redefining the way design is integrated into software. This helped Jeff to develop his understanding of both product and culture development within a workplace, serving to help organizations deliver great products.

Now operating as an independent consultant, Jeff focuses his time on speaking at events, coaching workshops, delivering corporate training, and writing books. Jeff has worked with organizations around the globe, and throughout our conversation he shared tips and best practices about leading organizations and teams.

Topics include:

  • Technology has the potential to be every organization’s superpower: The way that we grow and scale with technology and software has become continuous rather than static, allowing for a multi-directional feedback system. This allows you to get your products and services into the hands of customers quicker, and to continuously improve the feedback time to increase value.
  • Try measuring outcomes rather than output: To provide the internal systems and culture to support ongoing client feedback, leaders can adjust the way they manage their teams. Rather than managing output, a better metric to focus on is outcomes- the changes in behaviour we want to see once the product is in the customer’s hands.
  • Be willing to adapt, be humble and change your mind: To be truly dynamic and customer focused, it requires a change in the way we work. This includes being mindful of who we hire, adjusting our rewards systems, and fostering humility within the workplace.
